Position Details
About the role:
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) provides senior executive leadership and accountability for the Department of Health's enterprise information, digital and information technology (IT) functions. The role is responsible for the department's IT strategy and planning, and for ensuring this is integrated with the department's broader strategic directions. The CIO also builds enterprise IT capabilities so that technology investments enable safe, efficient and sustainable departmental functioning and service delivery.
The CIO is responsible for the department's cybersecurity, information governance and digital risk, ensuring compliance with legislative and whole-of-government requirements and protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of health information.
The CIO also undertakes IT portfolio planning, delivery and cybersecurity functions for the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) through a shared services agreement.
The CIO leads work and provides strategic advice on the delivery on priority government initiatives, including supporting interjurisdictional work and national strategic priorities as required, and drives reform and system improvements for immediate and long-term impact.

About you:
Can you demonstrate the following?
- Lead the development, iteration and maintenance of the department's ICT strategy aligned with the department's goals, strategic directions and priorities.
- Lead the management of the ICT portfolio for DH/DFFH to deliver on time, on budget and to ensure ICT projects effectively mitigate critical business risks or meet priority business needs
- Lead the improvement, performance and evaluation of the ICT and cybersecurity functions, including overseeing the design, development, prioritisation and delivery of systems and infrastructure to achieve improvements in efficacy and efficiency, and to comply with privacy, data protection, and health information legislation.
- Lead the AI workplan, including all-staff education and training on WoVG AI policies, development of DH specific policies and the realisation of benefits related to AI adoption.
- Lead and support an ICT cost optimisation program that identifies cost savings, avoidance on ICT spend, and ‘spend to save' ICT programs for DH.
- Lead and provide strategic oversight of the branch and cultivate a culture of innovation, learning and continuous improvement for the successful implementation and delivery of divisional and departmental objectives.
Qualifications / Specialist Expertise
- A bachelor's or post graduate qualification in computer science, information technology, health, public administration, business management, or a related field is required.
- Senior management or executive experience in a public health organisation at state or national level would be advantageous.
- Senior experience of, or strong working knowledge in oversight of IT strategy / systems, cybersecurity, information management or data governance would be advantageous.
