Position Summary:

Principal Solicitor – Property and Assets Team

The role is available in the Property and Assets Team. The Property and Assets Team provides practical, outcome-focused legal advice and support across a broad range of areas including property agreements (for example, maintenance, upgrade works, funding, construction, development agreements, leases, licences), conveyancing, planning, residential tenancies, public liability, procurement, statutory interpretation, discrimination, Charter of Human Rights and natural justice.

As a Principal Solicitor in the Legal Services Branch you will be required to provide authoritative, timely and practical legal advice, mentor and support other solicitors in the unit and branch, and take the lead on a variety of legal projects. You will also prepare Ministerial correspondence, Cabinet submissions and other written reports and briefings to clients.

Your advice must be clear, accurate and appropriate to meeting the client's needs. You will be required to engage and oversee external legal firms in meeting the needs of Departmental clients. You will also be required to take a lead role in preparing primary and subordinate legislation. The Principal Solicitor will independently handle matters, support clients and maintain positive relationships by actively working with our stakeholders. The Principal Solicitor will also be responsible for providing legal advice in relation to policy development, implementation of projects and training across the department.
