Position Summary:

Reporting to the Head of Communications, Emergency Management, the Communications and Media Officer will deliver expert communications advice and assistance to stakeholders across the department and to ministers' offices. They will contribute to the development and implementation of innovative and comprehensive communications and media strategies for major policies and projects, and be responsible for the evaluation of these strategies.

The incumbent will work closely with branch colleagues and relevant business areas within the department to ensure that communication with stakeholders is clear, engaging and timely, and is clearly aligned to the department's strategic plan. They will collaborate with teams across the branch to create compelling communications and media products for a range of purposes and audiences, including public information and warnings, fact sheets, newsletters, and materials for online and social media, media releases, and communications campaigns.

As appropriate, they may also be required to provide surge support to other policy portfolios to ensure effective media and communications services can be delivered by the Branch during emergency, crisis and peak periods.
