The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is an independent statutory authority responsible for preparing and conducting criminal prosecutions in Victoria on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Matters prosecuted by the DPP and OPP involve serious crimes or matters that are of significance to the fair and effective operation of the Victorian criminal justice system.

The OPP consists of the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions and a workforce of 475 who provide legal and corporate support to the DPP, Chief Crown Prosecutor and Crown Prosecutors in the exercise of their independent roles in the criminal justice system.

The Director, Trial Divisions roles are newly created with accountability for leading people and practice management, culture and capability development across the OPP's 4 Trial Divisions comprising 150+ lawyers. The roles report to and collaborate with the two Executive Directors, Legal Practice and lead and support 12 Managing Principal Solicitors (6 for each TD Director) as their direct reports.

These key positions focus on developing and enhancing:

  •  Continuous improvement in service delivery
  •  Advancement of the OPP's strategic vision
  •  Professional excellence

The Directors will lead innovative projects and also represent the OPP with key stakeholders including the Courts, Victoria Police and other entities.

You are likely to have substantial criminal, prosecutions, investigations and/or litigation experience. Most importantly, you demonstrate achievements in effective leadership, insight, and a strong ability to collaborate well with others. Your communication and influencing skills are excellent and your decision-making approach is informed by data-driven analysis. You understand the need to engage people with a compelling vision, foster wellbeing, and drive an ongoing learning and transformation focus.
