About the role
As the Director Legal, Risk and Compliance, and General Counsel you will be responsible for providing the legal advice to the Board, CEO and the Executive Management Team, as well as having strategic input into the delivery of the organisation's strategic objectives and ensuring all activities of the organisation are conducted within the limits prescribed by law and that the organisation's rights are protected.
This role leads and oversees critical stakeholder engagement, including the need to engage, inform and advise a diverse range of senior stakeholders in relation to highly complex issues. Leading the compliance, integrity, risk management and business continuity planning, FOI and privacy functions of the organisation, This role leads the board secretary function and provides advice on current best practice corporate governance requirements and practices, directors' duties under the law and the Victorian Government requirements, board reporting and disclosure obligations and proper meetings' procedures.
We're looking for someone with:
- A tertiary qualification in law is essential as well as holding a current Practising Certificate in Victoria (Post admission experience of at least 15+ years is highly desirable)
- Significant experience at the manager level in Government, large corporate or similar
- Demonstrated experience five plus years' working in in-house legal practice and exposure to property law would be an advantage
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the appropriate interpretation and implementation of relevant legislation and associated regulations, guidelines, policies and practices preferably within a large and complex organisation
