About Us:
The Finance and Procurement business unit provides department-wide financial, procurement and workplace services through strategic leadership and setting the direction, policy, and processes, and partnering with the department to build capability.
The Finance Branch leads the department's efforts to comply with government and legislative financial management responsibilities while driving a culture of strategic financial management across the department. It is responsible for the department's financial and budgetary policies and processes, including statutory reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, taxation compliance, government reporting (including Standing Directions), and facilitation of the annual budget process.
About the Role:
The Financial Accountant is responsible for providing technical accounting and financial systems advice to clients, possess technical accounting knowledge, computer skills, and analytical and communication skills.
This role delivers core financial reporting team functions, using knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, Financial Management Act, Standing Directions, Financial Reporting Directions, Resource Management Framework, and any other relevant requirements, as well as knowledge of Financial Systems, Business Intelligence and State Resource Information Management System.
Some of your duties will include:
- Maintaining compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, Financial Management Act, Standing Directions, Financial Reporting Directions, Resource Management Framework, and any other relevant requirements
- Coordinating key updates and their circulation to users for the department's accounting policies, procedures and forms
- Liaising with both internal (senior management, budget team, business units and portfolio entities) and external (Victorian Auditor-General's Office (VAGO), Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF), and other State Government entities) clients to resolve current accounting issues.

About You:
As an ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Knowledge of current Australian Accounting Standards, Financial Management Act, Standing Directions, Financial Reporting Directions, Resource Management Framework, and other binding accounting pronouncements
- Understanding of public sector financial management and associated policies, practices and procedures
- Working knowledge of Financial Systems, in particular the General Ledger module, Business Intelligence and State Resource Information Management System (SRIMS).
Qualifications:
- An appropriate tertiary qualification with a major in Accounting
- Eligibility for membership of CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia or other relevant body is desirable
