  • A fixed-term, full-time opportunity to work with a high-performing and passionate team in the Victorian Public Service until 31st December 2027
  • VPS Grade 5: $113,022 - $136,747 plus superannuation.

About the Business Unit:

The Historical Forced Adoption Scheme was established by the Victorian Government to acknowledge the impact of historical forced adoption practices. The Scheme provides financial redress and support to the many mothers who continue to live with the serious, complex and ongoing effects of their experience of forced separation. The scheme is open to mothers who gave birth in Victoria, or were a Victorian resident but gave birth interstate, and who were forcibly separated from their newborn babies prior to 1990.

About the Role:

Senior Assessors are responsible for conducting complex, objective and accurate assessments of applications to the HFA Scheme, and producing high quality, clear and objective written documents in accordance with the Scheme's assessment guidelines. They are also responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, data and summary information, and ongoing policy development to support the delivery of the Scheme.

This position requires dealing with material that can be challenging and distressing. This role will best suit a candidate who is resilient and empathetic, with strong writing and analytical skills.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Conducting complex, objective and accurate assessments of applications to the HFA scheme in accordance with the scheme's key parameters and assessment guidelines
  • Critically analysing applications to determine whether the applicant's experience is within the scope of the scheme, meets the scheme's standard of proof, and is eligible for redress; and recommending assessment outcomes for Director approval
  • Producing high quality, clear and objective written documents in accordance with the scheme's assessment guidelines, that provide a clear and compelling basis for the recommended assessment outcomes.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • The ability to analyse and critically evaluate complex information to establish a strong written evidentiary basis for an assessed recommendation
  • Demonstrated policy development/research capability, including the ability to apply legislation and principles associated with criminal law, equal opportunity, social policy, criminal justice.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A qualification or relevant experience in one or more of the following areas is essential: law, equal opportunity, criminal justice, social policy or health
  • Previous experience assessing applications for redress and/or restorative engagement scheme will be highly regarded.
