About us

Ministerial Services delivers high level support services to the Justice and Community Safety Ministers to help them meet their responsibilities to Parliament and Cabinet and in relation to statutory authorities in their portfolios. Specifically, Ministerial Services:

  • manages Cabinet and Cabinet Committee briefing processes
  • co-ordinates the development of the Justice and Community Safety legislation program and monitors progress of the program
  • co-ordinates answers to parliamentary questions
  • manages the process for making appointments to Justice and Community Safety portfolio statutory entities
  • arranges the tabling of statutory authority annual reports
  • provides a wide range of advice to the Ministers, their staff and all levels of the Department of Justice and Community Safety in relation to Cabinet, Parliament, Executive Council matters and Ministerial travel.

About the role

The Adviser prepares documentation for appointments to statutory bodies and offices in the Justice and Community Safety portfolios. This documentation includes Cabinet submissions, Executive Council papers and Ministerial briefings.  Other responsibilities of the role include:

  • providing advice to departmental staff, executives and Ministers on appointment processes and upcoming appointments
  • undertaking a coordination function for annual reports and the annual remuneration review process
  • providing advice relating to international Ministerial Travel arrangements.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will be required to demonstrate:

  • a knowledge and understanding of statutory appointment and Cabinet and Parliament processes
  • the ability to establish effective stakeholder relationships and to negotiate innovative solutions to complex issues
  • conceptual and specialist skills, using own strengths and managing weaknesses to mitigate obstacles.
