About us

The Payroll Administration, Systems and Reporting team forms part of the Department of Justice and Regulation's People and Culture business unit, and is responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the department's human resources information systems. These include:

  • payroll system (chris21)
  • employee self-service portal (JPay/CPay)
  • rostering system (TimeTarget)

The team ensures the efficient administration and running of pay for staff across the department and portfolio agencies, as well as preparing standard and ad hoc reports, and providing workforce data for internal and external stakeholders.

About the role

A fantastic ongoing opportunity has arisen for an experienced payroll manager to take on this leadership role, based at 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, HR Services, you will be responsible for leading a team of payroll and systems professionals to ensure the integrity of the department's human resources information systems; the efficient and accurate administration of payroll; and that workforce data and reports add value to decision making.

You will be a member of the People and Culture leadership team and play an integral role in advising senior stakeholders on matters relating to payroll administration, human resources information systems and workforce data, as well as representing People and Culture on various steering and management committees.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • extensive experience in payroll management and administration within a large and complex organisation
  • expert knowledge and experience in maintaining human resources information systems, including payroll and rostering systems (chris21 experience is highly desirable)
  • experience in the delivery and analysis of workforce data and reports
  • current knowledge of tax, superannuation and associated payroll legislation.

In addition, you will have a proven track record in leading and managing high performing teams, with a focus on continual improvement and providing exceptional service to clients and stakeholders.

Whilst not mandatory, a relevant tertiary qualification would be advantageous.
