About the department

The Department of Justice and Regulation (the department) is one arm of the Victorian State Government, a recognised top employer of choice nationally. All of our staff work to the vision of a safe, just, innovative and thriving Victoria.

The department manages the development and implementation of a range of laws, regulation and policy in many areas of public life and ensures that all elements of the justice system are working efficiently and effectively. The community can access a range of the department's services at Justice Services Centres, which are located all across the state.

What you will do

As a Local Engagement Officer (LEO), you will play a crucial role in helping Victorians feel safe and confident in our justice system. You will be based at the department's Barwon South West offices and work to ensure that local justice services are benefiting the community. 

This involves managing and monitoring complex contracts the department has with funded service providers, including the Victim Support Agency, Consumer Affairs Victoria, Corrections Victoria and the Koori Justice Unit. Your work will include:

  • Analysing the requirements of individual contacts and evaluating if the agencies are delivering what they have promised.
  • Helping build strong and positive relationships between justice services, local community agencies and local service teams of the department.
  • Advancing opportunities for improvements to service integration through innovative thinking.
  • Preparing comprehensive briefs, including technical reports.
  • Contributing to the design, development and implementation of new initiatives, and the improvement of existing initiatives and services.
  • Regular travel between departmental locations with the occasional overnight stay.

Skills you should have

  • Relationship building –you act confidently to quickly build rapport with others and provide a sound basis for productive relationships based on mutual trust and respect.
  • Stakeholder management – you can manage the development and implementation of stakeholder initiatives, creating lasting relationships with stakeholder groups to broker shared solutions in new areas.
  • Influence and negotiation – you can use leadership and expertise to effectively address stakeholder issues, influencing others to identify opportunities for long-lasting solutions.
  • Knowledge and expertise – you know what you're talking about. You've had experience in the coordination of complex service delivery models, including contract coordination and management.

A current Victorian driver's licence is mandatory.

A related tertiary degree is highly desirable but not essential.
