About us

The Senior Workplace Relations Consultant sits within the Workplace Relations Team, People and Workplace Services within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (department). Workplace Relations is responsible for management of the Justice Portfolio's industrial relations program, the management of departmental employee relations issues and also administers the internal review of actions process. 

About the role

Based on site at Youth Justice Custodial Services, the Senior Workplace Relations Consultant is responsible for providing specialist consultancy services, advice and coaching around complex people management issues in Youth Justice Custodial Services in relation to underperformance, discipline, conflict resolution, consultation processes, employee ill-health, organisational change and other employee relations issues.

While the role is primarily based there will be a requirement to work out of Malmsbury and the Melbourne CBD from time to time.

The Senior Workplace Relations Consultant will also:

  • lead the development and implementation of people management, employee relations and industrial solutions
  • manage conflict resolution and change management processes within the department
  • consult with, and gain cooperation from external agencies, organisations and unions
  • provide advice across a full range of people management issues and practices in accordance with Victorian Public Sector policies, the Public Administration Act 2004 and the Victorian Public Service Enterprise      Agreement 2016
  • be responsible for the supervision of a small group of onsite workplace relations consultants and human resource administration officers.

About you

The ideal candidate will be able to display:

  • extensive experience in case management of complex human resources issues
  • the ability to understand and advise on policy and legislation
  • experience advising senior stakeholders on people management issues
  • development and delivery of people management strategies and projects
  • high-level written communication and experience in developing complex documentation.

The Senior Workplace Relations Consultant will also need to have sound problem solving skills and be able to demonstrable resilience when dealing with sensitive, and at times, complex information.
