Department policy stipulates that salary upon commencement is paid at the base of the salary range for the relevant grade. Any above base requests require sign off by an executive delegate and will be by exception only or where required to match the current salary of Victorian Public Service staff transferring at level.

About us

The Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) is a business unit within the Department of Justice and Regulation (the Department). The CSA is responsible for the production of official crime statistics for the state of Victoria independent of Victoria Police, and undertakes statistical, research and evaluation activities related to crime and criminal justice issues.

The CSA has a key role in providing advice and support on data related issues across the Department, and representing the Department in interdepartmental fora on data management and data reform.

About the role

The Manager, Data Governance, is responsible for leading the development of internal policies and processes across the Department for data governance to enhance the access, sharing and use of data to provide a timely and robust evidence base to inform policy and practice.

Reporting to the Chief Statistician, CSA, the Manager will demonstrate innovation and best practice in data governance to support the work of the Department. The role involves significant stakeholder management across the Department, and is a trusted advisor to the Chief Statistician and senior managers in relation to data governance. This is a newly created position available initially for a fixed term of 12 months.  Your responsibilities will include:

  • leading the development and delivery of a data governance program across the Department to effectively and efficiently govern and manage data assets.
  • developing and maintain effective stakeholder relations on behalf of the CSA.
  • providing high level, authoritative advice on data governance, data management and data quality.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will be required to demonstrate:

  • experience in managing the development and implementation of data governance or related projects across large organisations
  • an understanding and awareness of the key issues impacting data management and data use in Victoria
  • an understanding of data management and data quality processes and protocols including data collection, classifications and standards.
