Position Details

About us

The Office of the Public Advocate (OPA) is an independent statutory office accountable to the Victorian Parliament which has been established to protect the rights and enhance the position of people with disabilities in Victoria.

About the role

This position is part of the Intake and Hospital team, which includes the team leader, intake officers, who are advocate guardians, and administrative support staff.  It is part of the advocate guardian program.

The Guardian Support Officer will be responsible for managing guardianship matters that have been placed in the monitoring list after the major decisions have been made by the allocated guardian. You will also assist in the work of the Intake and Hospital team, which involves the pending list and the receipt of calls from represented persons, family and interested parties including professionals. The role will also involve liaison with VCAT.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • demonstrated knowledge of the Victorian human services sector, particularly disability, mental illness and aged care service systems
  • an understanding of the issues relating to disability, including mental illness and age related disability
  • strong written and verbal communication skills.

A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable but not essential.
