What does the business unit do?

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria.

Data, Digital and Insights (DDI) focuses on meeting the departments data and digital needs by providing responsive and sustainable services focused on supporting departmental outcomes. The specialist groups within DDI consist of Technology Solutions and Evidence and Insights.

Technology Solutions explores and employs modern technology to enable the department's business to function via the use of modern, appropriate platforms, products and services.

Evidence and Insights is responsible for providing end-to-end evidence-based policy support to the Department of Justice and Community Safety, and the reporting of data and research to the Victorian public through the Crime Statistics Agency and the National Coronial Information System.

The DevOps group within Technology Solutions is responsible for the development and operations of enterprise platforms. These platforms include the department's AWS Platform and Landing Zone, enterprise service bus, consolidated data base platform, web platform, online transactions environment, M365 development, ServiceNow platform and DevOps tooling. The DevOps group preferences Agile methodologies in operations, utilising Kanban, Scrum and SAFe. The team is collaborative at its foundation and aims to deliver services to citizens and the rest of the department that are simple, repeatable, innovative and end-user focused.

What will the role do?

The Senior M365 Developer will work collaboratively with a team of M365 and web design and development specialists in an agile environment and cross-functionally with other key specialists including UX specialists, architects, analysts and testers. The role's key focus will be developing and supporting the department's suite of M365 based applications including the department's Intranet and Electronic Briefing & Correspondence System.

The Senior Developer will develop, test and iterate high quality digital and user interface development in-line with DJCS & Victorian Government strategies. The role will contribute to the technical design and implementation of shared artefacts across multiple digital products.

What skills should a Senior M365 Developer have?

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience and expert knowledge in advanced web development utilising various web technologies including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, SOAP, REST, AJAX, jQuery.
  • Experience with Sass, Less, Bootstrap, NodeJS and Gulp and an excellent grasp of CSS methodologies experience (BEM, SMACSS).
  • Demonstrated understanding of UX principals.
  • Experience developing web interfaces to meet WCAG 2.0 AA compliance.
  • Understanding and demonstrated use of a range of digital and online design and development tools, including the use of recognised and emerging technologies
