Position Details

About us

The Child Witness Service (CWS) is a state-wide service, which forms part of the Community Operations and Victims Support Agency. The CWS is a specialist case management service for child witnesses their families and/or carers and aims to increase participation by child witnesses in the criminal justice process and to reduce trauma associated with being a witness in criminal matters.

About the role

As the Team Leader, Child Witness Service, you will manage a high performing team of Child Witness Officers, resourcing the team to provide comprehensive child focused specialist case management services.

In the role, you will:

  • carry a small caseload, directly providing trauma informed, specialist end-to-end case management of child witnesses' contact with the criminal justice system
  • strengthen working alliances with organisations that also provide assistance to child witnesses and/or their families
  • ensure the delivery of high quality and effective services through the provision of practice leadership to team members
  • actively contribute to the identification of emerging issues, develop proposals for action for service improvement and execute agreed plans

Please note that child witnesses give evidence from remote witness rooms, some in regional locations, so regular regional travel across Victoria is required, often requiring overnight stays.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • demonstrated knowledge of child and adolescent development, and direct experience in working with children, adolescents and families impacted by trauma
  • demonstrated experience in the court based and/or human services
  • experience in addressing complex issues in relation to sensitive topics whilst building trust and rapport.
