Position Details

About us

The Service and Place reform unit is responsible for looking at how the department can tailor its services to acknowledge the unique community circumstances and needs of common clients. This includes leading the establishment of demonstration sites to prove up the integrated approach for common clients across Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS).

About the role

The Policy Officer will be involved in work within a diverse range of matters, which could include assisting with developing and implementing legislative, policy and administrative reforms, providing advice to senior executives and the DJCS Ministers on complex matters and strategic reforms.  In this role you will:

  • contribute to research and policy work to provide advice and support to the Minister and the Departmental Executive on a range of policy proposals, programs and initiatives within the reform program
  • undertake high quality research projects under limited direction
  • take part in the preparation of Cabinet submissions, briefs, and drafting instructions in relation to proposed legislation.

About you

As our ideal candidate you will have:

  • an understanding of Victoria's justice and social service systems
  • knowledge of and experience in the development of policy and a sound understanding of legislative processes
  • sound knowledge of how legislation is developed and of Cabinet and Parliamentary processes.
