About us

The Senior Workplace Relations Consultant sits within the Workplace Relations Team, People and Workplace Services within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (department). Workplace Relations is responsible for management of the Justice Portfolio's industrial relations program, the management of departmental employee relations issues and also administers the internal review of actions process. 

About the role

This role has a number of significant aspects to it:

  • the provision of expert industrial relations advice and support across the Justice portfolio including the development of tactical strategies aimed at resolving significant issues, representing the department at industrial forums and managing complex and often difficult industrial matters;
  • playing a significant role in contributing to enterprise bargaining processes across the Justice portfolio.

The Senior Workplace Relations Consultant (Industrial Relations) will also:

  • lead the development and implementation of people management, employee relations and industrial solutions
  • manage conflict resolution and change management processes within the department
  • consult with, and gain cooperation from external agencies, organisations and unions
  • provide advice across a full range of people management issues and practices in accordance with Victorian Public Sector policies, the Public Administration Act 2004 and the Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreement 2016.

About you

The ideal candidate will be able to display:

  • expertise in the management of complex industrial relations issues, including significant experience in enterprise bargaining
  • extensive experience in case management of complex human resources issues
  • the ability to understand and advise on policy and legislation
  • experience advising senior stakeholders on people management issues
  • development and delivery of people management strategies and projects
  • high-level written communication and experience in developing complex documentation.

The Senior Workplace Relations Consultant will also need to have sound problem solving skills and be able to demonstrable resilience when dealing with sensitive, and at times, complex information.
