About the Business Unit

The Strategic Communication Branch delivers communication services on behalf of the department's business units to inform and educate the community about departmental policies, programs and legislation across the justice and community safety system.


About the Role

The Senior Adviser, Events is a critical role in the Strategic Communication Branch, providing front-line events management support to the Department of Justice and Community Safety and its Ministers.

The role is primarily responsible for delivering high-quality, well-organised and strategically aligned events for the Office of the Secretary, Board of Management and Ministerial offices, as well as providing sound, professional advice to relevant department stakeholders.

The role also supports the Manager, Events in leading the Events team within the department and in supporting the team's overall services to Ministerial offices.

Some of your duties may include:

  • Lead and deliver departmental events for the Office of the Secretary and Board of Management, including planning and coordination of event logistics, budgeting, client liaison and preparation of Secretary/department briefs, event briefs, ensuring delivery of events to a high standard.
  • Support the Manager, Events with secondary responsibility for planning and delivering all aspects of events and events briefs for the lead Justice Minister's portfolio.
  • Working closely with the Internal Communication team and other relevant teams in the planning and delivery of high-quality events for the department.


About You

As our ideal candidate, you will be able to demonstrate;

  • Understanding and demonstrated experience in event management for senior corporate stakeholders, ideally within government and familiarity with government events protocols


  • A tertiary qualification in communication or a related discipline is desirable.

The department is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment which is safe and without risk to the health of its employees consistent with the department's obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic). Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.

At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. 

Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal. This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).

Acceptable evidence includes:

  • COVID-19 digital certificate or ATAGI exemption certificate (available via your myGov account)
  • Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)

Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
