Department policy stipulates that salary upon commencement is paid at the base of the salary range for the relevant grade. Any above base requests require sign off by an executive delegate and will be by exception only or where required to match the current salary of Victorian Public Service staff transferring at level.

About us

The Justice Assurance and Reiew Office (JARO) is a business unit in the Regulation Division which operates as an internal review and assurance function to advise the Secretary, Department of Justice and Regulation (DJR) on the performance of the youth justice and corrections systems.

JARO exists separately and independently from the department's Youth Justice division and Corrections Victoria and acts as an additional line of defence against emerging and enduring risk within both systems.

About the role

As the Manager Reviews, you will lead a dedicated team that is responsible for using a risk-based approach to conduct complex reviews in order to identify issues and trends as well as continuous improvement opportunities within complex and changing environments.

You will work within a dynamic setting that requires knowledge of the criminal justice system, ability to complete complex reviews, maintain senior stakeholder relationships, with the capacity to exercise sound judgement to identify risk and take action.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will be:

  • motivated to contribute to continuous improvement and change within the youth justice and correctional systems
  • a strong leader with the ability to lead a team in a high performing unit
  • solution focussed and able to apply innovative and strategic thinking in a dynamic environment
  • interested in using risk-based approaches to conduct complex reviews in order to identify issues and trends as well as continuous improvement opportunities within complex and changing environments
  • a persuasive writer with the ability to prepare evidence-based reports on complex and diverse issues.

As the successful applicant, you will be required to operate in a demanding environment, exercise sound professional judgement, liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including senior executives and operate with a high level of professionalism, initiative and collaboration. Demonstrated experience in supervising and managing staff is highly desirable.
