About us

Consumer Affairs Victoria is Victoria's consumer regulator. Our vision is a fair and competitive marketplace in Victoria. We:

  • provide information to business, consumers, landlords and tenants about their rights and responsibilities
  • register and license organisations and occupations
  • ensure compliance with consumer laws, and
  • review and advise government about Victoria's consumer protection framework.

Investigation Services situated within the Regulatory Services Division of Consumer Affairs Victoria, delivers compliance and enforcement functions including investigating businesses and individuals alleged to have breached consumer protection law in Victoria.

About the role

Reporting to the Business Improvement Manager, Investigation Services, the Investigator promotes proactive compliance with consumer law. The incumbent will be responsible for undertaking and leading compliance and enforcement actions using the department's integrated compliance approach. In this role, you will:

  • participate and contribute to a range of inquiries, investigations and monitoring activities pursuant to the legislation administered by this office, including the preparation of briefs and reports
  • assist in the identification of issues and make policy recommendations emerging from inquiries and investigations
  • contribute to aspects of an ongoing compliance program, including planning and development of compliance activities and their implementation, as necessary under the guidance of senior colleagues.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • knowledge of, and or relevant experience in legislative compliance and enforcement activities
  • previous investigative or compliance/enforcement experience is required
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Economics, Law or other related fields will be an advantage.
