What does the business unit do?

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria.

Data, Digital and Insights (DDI) focuses on meeting the departments data and digital needs by providing responsive and sustainable services focused on supporting departmental outcomes. The specialist groups within DDI consist of Technology Solutions and Evidence and Insights. 

Technology Solutions explores and employs modern technology to enable the department's business to function via the use of modern, appropriate platforms, products and services.

Evidence and Insights leads the DJCS data reporting, analytics and modelling program, outcomes measurement and evaluation services. It includes the Crime Statistics Agency and National Coronial Information System.

The DevOps group within Technology Solutions is responsible for the development and operations of enterprise platforms. These platforms include the department's AWS Platform and Landing Zone, enterprise service bus, consolidated data base platform, web platform, online transactions environment, M365 development, ServiceNow platform and DevOps tooling. The DevOps group preferences Agile methodologies in operations, utilising Kanban, Scrum and SAFe. The team is collaborative at its foundation and aims to deliver services to citizens and the rest of the department that are simple, repeatable, innovative and end-user focused.

What will the role do?

The Cloud Engineer is a member of the Cloud COE team, and is responsible for the design, development, testing and deployment of custom workflows and scripts within the AWS Cloud infrastructure that can be used for integration, deployment, monitoring, compliance, or other routine tasks. A Cloud Engineer must be able to build, monitor, and manage the Cloud infrastructure.

What skills should a Cloud Engineer have?

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Familiar with / basic understanding of working in an Agile/Scrum.
  • Familiar with / basic knowledge of Cloud computing technologies.
  • Familiarity with AWS Well Architected Framework and Cloud migration industry standards and best practices.
  • Basic knowledge of continuous integration and deployment technologies.
  • Basic experience with test-driven development frameworks for application and infrastructure code.
  • Some experience with infrastructure-as-a-service platforms.
  • Possess the fundamental knowledge in these areas: Sys admin in using OS platform (Linux/Unix)
  • Firm grasp of networking fundamentals such as DNS, HTTP, TCP/IP etc; Experience with relational database system (Sql Server, MySql, Postgresql).
  • Basic experience with tooling to support monitoring, telemetry, logging, and reporting/dashboarding, and continuous delivery technologies.
  • Technical background (operating systems, networking, application performance management, load balancing, security systems, etc).
  • Knowledge of databases (relational and NoSQL).
  • Knowledge of networks (routing, firewalls, load balancers, DNS, etc).
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring tools.
