What does the business unit do?

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria.

Data, Digital and Insights (DDI) focuses on meeting the departments data and digital needs by providing responsive and sustainable services focused on supporting departmental outcomes. The specialist groups within DDI consist of Technology Solutions and Evidence and Insights. 

Technology Solutions explores and employs modern technology to enable the department's business to function via the use of modern, appropriate platforms, products and services.

Evidence and Insights leads the DJCS data reporting, analytics and modelling program, outcomes measurement and evaluation services. It includes the Crime Statistics Agency and National Coronial Information System.

The DevOps group within Technology Solutions is responsible for the development and operations of enterprise platforms. These platforms include the department's AWS Platform and Landing Zone, enterprise service bus, consolidated data base platform, web platform, online transactions environment, M365 development, ServiceNow platform and DevOps tooling. The DevOps group preferences Agile methodologies in operations, utilising Kanban, Scrum and SAFe. The team is collaborative at its foundation and aims to deliver services to citizens and the rest of the department that are simple, repeatable, innovative and end-user focused.

What will the role do?

The Lead DevOps Architect is a member of the Cloud Centre of Excellence (COE) team and is responsible for building and operating fast and scalable workflows, and must have the ability to help an architect, design and lead the transformational journey into the Cloud platform of services.

What skills should an Lead DevOps Architect have?

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Experience of working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Specialist in Cloud computing technologies and workload transition challenges.
  • Knowledge of AWS Well Architected Framework and Cloud migration industry standards and best practices.
  • Prior programming background in at least ONE language: C++, Java, Python, Ruby etc.
  • Knowledge of development processes and methodologies.
  • Deep experience with of Automation services like - Lambda, API Gateway, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline.
  • Deep knowledge of DevOps tooling landscape and experience integrating various DevOps tools together to provide end to end application lifecycle management.
  • Deep software architecture and programming skills.
  • Strong scripting skills, i.e., Powershell, Python, Bash, Ruby, Perl, etc.
  • Strong practical Linux and Windows-based systems administration skills in a Cloud or Virtualized environment.
  • Deep understanding of Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA and REST).
  • Deep understanding of application and infrastructure logs.
  • Extensive experience with various DevSecOps tools including Qualys, Fortify, or OWASP.
