About us

The Honorary Justice Office (HJO) within the Department of Justice and Community Safety supports the functions of the cohort of volunteers who serve as honorary justices, which comprises the roles of bail justices and justices of the peace. Honorary justices provide essential justice services to the community.

The HJO oversees recruitment, appointment, training and support and quality assurance functions for honorary justices. The purpose of the HJO is to effectively support the delivery of accessible, high quality honorary justice services that meet community needs.

About the role

As the Manager, Honorary Justice Office, you will:

  • provide the leadership, strategic direction and guidance required to achieve the HJO's purpose of supporting high quality honorary justice services for the Victorian community
  • be responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of policies and strategies to support the HJO's purpose
  • lead and manage the HJO to conduct honorary justice recruitment and appointment, volunteer learning and development and compliance, quality assurance of volunteer services, volunteer recognition and wellbeing and ongoing stakeholder engagement
  • oversee staff development and performance, team resources and budgets, executive reporting, ongoing improvement and effective risk management systems and processes.

This is an ongoing, full-time role, based at 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • a strong background in supporting volunteer workforces across the community
  • proven leadership skills at a senior level, with significant experience in managing strategic projects
  • experience in government processes and service delivery within legislative frameworks
  • outstanding change management, stakeholder management and communication skills.

A relevant tertiary qualification would also be highly regarded.
