  • An Ongoing, Full-Time opportunity to work with a high-performing and passionate team in the Victorian Public Service
  • VPS Grade 4: $95,102 - $107,905 plus superannuation.

About the Business Unit:

The National Coronial Information System (NCIS) is a data repository containing information on deaths reported to a coroner in Australia and New Zealand. It is an essential data tool for both coroners and researchers to obtain nationally standardised information about the causes of preventable death and injury.

As a voluntary collaboration between the Australian States and Territories and New Zealand, the NCIS is unique at both a national and international level. The NCIS is leading the way in the provision of data for evidence-based mortality research, given its comprehensive demographic data, medical cause of death and searchable medicolegal documentation.

The provision and use of coronial data is governed by a licence agreement held between the NCIS and each coronial jurisdiction in Australia and New Zealand. The NCIS is governed by a Board of Management and hosted by the Victorian Department of Justice and Community Safety. Funding is provided by all Australian states and territories, select Australian Government agencies and the New Zealand Ministry of Justice. The NCIS is independent of the coronial system and does not form any part of the coronial investigation process.
