About the Team

Assets and Engineering is a division of Network Design and Integration and is responsible for enabling Department of Transport to effectively plan, deliver and maintain a safe, resilient and fit-for-purpose Victorian transport system through trusted, systematic and disciplined technical excellence.

The Road Design team is part of the Assets and Engineering division and is focused on delivering sustainable road design services that address transport growth and investment. With a high demand for our services the Road Design team supports the Department of Transport deliver on its strategic priorities.

About the Opportunity

The Specialist Civil Designer is a subject matter expert, reporting to the Senior Manager – Road Design, within Assets and Engineering and is responsible for providing high quality road design services, leadership and trusted high level technical expert advice on road design and traffic engineering matters.

The Specialist Civil Designer will have strong communication skills with an ability to communicate with technical team members and non-technical customers and stakeholders, working within the road design team to source, secure and deliver specialist technical design services under a cost recovery model

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Professional Engineering Knowledge (Leading) – Applies specialist knowledge to assess change requests and prequalification assessments and uses risk framework to understand and manage hazards/risks and ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, codes, standards, etc.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving (Leading) – Considers a broad range of topics (beyond immediate area of work), works across government and at senior levels to develop and deliver sustainable solutions.
  • Stakeholder Management (Leading) – Identifies and manages a range of complex and often competing needs; Facilitates innovative solutions to resolve stakeholder issues.
  • Develop Capability – Develops and applies frameworks to develop capability at organisation level: Clearly defines role expectations, monitors performance, provides timely and constructive feedback and facilitates employee development; Empowers others by providing them with the authority and latitude to accomplish tasks; Creates learning opportunities and appropriately delegates responsibilities to further the development of others
  • Project Delivery - Translates strategies into programs or projects that enables achievement of outcomes required; Defines governance e.g., success measures, roles and responsibilities, progress monitoring, finances) required to manage risks and maximise probability of success.

Mandatory

  • Relevant qualifications in Civil Engineering
  • Current Professional Engineering Registration in the field of civil, as issued by the Victorian Business Licensing Authority.
  • Extensive experience at a senior level delivering road design projects and providing technical advice
  • Extensive experience in the use of Austroads guidelines and DoT supplements to road design
  • Experience in project management and delivering road design related projects
  • Proficient in the use of Bentley Systems Inroads CADD software
