Position Details
Strategic Communications and Engagement
Our division supports the Department of Transport and Planning to deliver on the Government's transport and planning agenda.
We do this through clear communications, genuine engagement and marketing campaigns that resonate with people because they are focused on delivering better outcomes for people, wherever they live.
Primary purpose of this role
The Communications and Engagement Adviser is accountable for supporting the development and delivery of stakeholder communications and engagement plans for the transport reform portfolio within the Strategic Portfolio and Communications and Engagement branch.
They will have a strong risk and mitigation antennae, bags of initiative, ability to think strategically as well as operationally, excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to adapt in a busy and complex environment. This is will support more senior colleagues to help engage council, deliver events and of these plans.
Key Selection Criteria
- Experience in communications, stakeholder relations or community engagement with a demonstrated ability to prepare and implement plans.
- Ability to identify reputational and communications issues and risks as they emerge, develop mitigations and escalate to management.
- Ability to successfully manage competing priorities and project tasks in a complex and pressured environment to ensure project milestones are achieved and deadlines met.
- Well-developed written skills, especially in writing and presenting information that will be subject to public scrutiny.
- Ability to work collaboratively with project partners and senior advisors to achieve communications goals and objectives.
- Demonstrated initiative with proven ability to work as part of a team, proactively contributing to and providing support to other team members as the demand arises.
Qualifications
Mandatory
An appropriate tertiary qualification in communications, public relations or journalism or equivalent experience.
