Position Details

The Forecasting and Evaluation team is a central hub for the transport portfolio's demand forecasting and economic evaluation functions. We are responsible for driving consistency, quality and credibility of forecasting and evaluation done by our team and many others on behalf of the Victorian Government. We are the custodians of the department's household travel survey, strategic transport model and land usetransport interaction model. We are responsible for maintaining consistent forecasting assumptions and evaluation guidelines, providing assurance and support to stakeholders across the portfolio.

About the Role

The Senior Transport Modeller will work in the Forecasting and Evaluation team of the Mobility and Insights Division. Reporting to the Manager, Transport Modelling and Forecasting, the Senior Transport Modeller will work in a talented team of transport modelling colleagues. In this role you will apply the department's strategic transport and land use modelling tools including the Victorian Integrated Transport Model (VITM) and CityPlan. The responsibilities of the role include contributing to maintaining long term transport forecasting scenarios to a high standard to ensure credibility and confidence in the department's forecasting and evaluation functions. The Senior Transport Modeller will actively partner with planning and project teams, providing transport modelling input and advice that lifts the value of transport planning, business cases, economic evaluation and design functions across the transport and planning portfolio.

Position Outcomes

As an expert in transport and land use modelling, you consistently provided high-quality advice and input to planners and project teams, elevating the value of planning, policy, and project development activities. Your proactive efforts have significantly contributed to improving forecasting models, methodologies, and advice, while applying innovative thinking to pragmatically solve problems.

With a reliable and responsive reputation, you have worked cooperatively with colleagues and managers to allocate time and resources to the highest priority work, being responsive to stakeholders and partners through clear and collaborative communication.

Trusted and widely used tools have been key in maintaining and continuously improving datasets, forecasting assumptions, strategic models, and user-friendly outputs, ensuring transport and land use modelling information is widely consumed and trusted. Effective partnerships have been fostered with stakeholders in the department, other Victorian government agencies, and industry colleagues, contributing to achieving the vision and objectives of the Forecasting and Evaluation team and the department.

Additionally, you promote and support safe, inclusive, and flexible team operations, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and collaboration. Overall, this individual has a wealth of expertise and experience, bringing significant value to any planning, policy, or project development activities in the field of transport and land use modelling

Qualifications and experience

Mandatory

• Relevant tertiary qualification/s in engineering, economics or equivalent
• Strategic transport modelling knowledge
• Strong coding skills

Desirable

• Experience using Cube software
• Experience with Python or similar
