Portfolio Analysis Group

The Portfolio Analysis Group (PA) plays a key role in the delivery of the State Budget, monitoring financial and non-financial performance by Departments and assisting Departments to manage a variety of budget issues and pressures. It also provides advice on departmental and agency reviews and provides Budget advice to Cabinet and Cabinet sub-committees. PA's working environment is dynamic and fast paced and requires flexibility and adaptive approaches from its staff as work in PA often includes working across a range of portfolio issues and products.

About the role

As a Director of Portfolio Analysis, you will provide advice to Government on department-specific and other Budget policy and resource management issues, including for the annual State Budget and financial reporting.

Key accountabilities

This position has the following responsibilities:

  • Providing advice to Government on department-specific and other Budget policy and resource management issues, including for the annual State Budget and financial reporting
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships within the Department of Treasury and Finance and with other departments and portfolio agencies
  • Leading improvements in the provision of high-level analysis and advice to Government and senior management on budget-wide issues including implementing reform initiatives
  • Leading a team, including mentoring, coaching and managing the professional development of staff
  • Working collaboratively with other executive officers to manage the group's staff and deliverables and implementing strategies to build group capability

About you

  • Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills including a record of achievement in the provision of strategic advice and financial analysis to senior management or government
  • Proven ability to contribute innovatively to fiscal, resource allocation and/or service delivery policy, processes and reform directions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including an ability to distil and communicate complex issues with significant implications
  • Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships with stakeholders and strong negotiation skills
  • Proven ability to develop effective working relationships, lead and motivate a team of professionals and create a positive workplace culture

Experience and qualifications

  • A strong background in the provision of advice to senior management and other clients, development of policy and financial analysis
  • Experience in implementing strategic initiatives in a complex policy and financial environment to achieve outcomes consistent with business objectives
  • Extensive experience in public administration
  • Experience leading a team and working as part of a senior management group
