Position Details

DTF is looking for economists and senior economists to fill ongoing roles at the VPS4 to VPS6 classification. All roles are available on a flexible basis.

The Economic Policy Group provides advice on macroeconomic conditions and policy; energy, environment and resources policy; and regulation, planning and local government policy. Roles are currently available in the Macroeconomic Strategy and Regulation, Planning and Local Government teams.

In these roles, you will:

  • work independently and as part of a team, to provide advice on complex issues relating to economic policy issues; 
  • develop policy proposals and prepare briefing materials; 
  • manage and lead quantitative and qualitative research projects to inform policy advice and development; 
  • develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; 
  • collaborate on whole of government projects; and 
  • participate in planning and decision-making in the Group.

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • a strong record of achievement using economic principles and tools to develop robust policy advice and high quality research outcomes; 
  • demonstrated high level conceptual, analytical and oral/written communication skills; 
  • demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with team members and a range of stakeholders; 
  • skills in negotiation and communication including presenting persuasive economic arguments to senior executives; 
  • a strong understanding of the role and influence of State government in economic policy; and 
  • appropriate qualification in economics or a related field.
