Position Details

An exciting opportunity exists for serval VPS4s on an ongoing basis in Tax and Gambling Team, Revenue Group.

The Revenue Group is responsible for providing analysis and advice to Government on the following issues:

  • Tax policy, including the composition and performance of state taxes and revenue policy options, including opportunities to improve the State's tax mix.
  • Gambling policy, including advice on economic, tax and legislative issues in relation to lotteries, gaming machines, casino and wagering.
  • Intergovernmental financial relations, particularly in relation to the distribution and design of Commonwealth funding to states and territories.
  • Revenue forecasting, including projections of Victoria's GST revenue and state own source revenues, including payroll, property, gambling, insurance and motor vehicle taxes.


The responsibilities include:

  • Analyse economic, financial and/or public policy issues of major significance to the Victorian economy and government.
  • Undertake quantitative and qualitative research and analysis, both as independent discrete work, and in contribution to broader team projects.
  • Prepare timely and accurate briefings on a wide range of economic and financial policy issues for senior management and government.
  • Communicate and consult with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Make contributions to major government reports and publications.


As our ideal candidate, you will be required to demonstrate:

  • Well developed analytical, research, policy development and quantitative skills, and the ability to apply analytical skills to economic, financial and other public policy analysis.
  • Ability to analyse complex datasets, identify issues and assess the financial implications of policy ideas.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively or on a self-directed basis.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the policy relevance of major developments impacting on the Victorian economy.
  • Ability to identify, build and maintain strong networks and relationships with stakeholders to achieve team work objectives.
