About the role:

The Front of House Supervisor has responsibility for customer-facing tasks at the Victoria Police Museum, setting up and shutting down the museum, meeting and greeting visitors, managing the museum shop, and handling enquiries. The Front of House Supervisor works in a team of seven headed by the Museum & Historical Services Manager.

This role is central to the work of this award-winning, Accredited Museum with emphasis on a major project underway to relocate the museum and collection storage to new premises. The new museum and collection store have both been redesigned in line with best-practice. This is a unique opportunity to support a business-critical project leading up to the museum's reopening in 2023 and beyond.

Your duties will include:

  • Representing the public face of an Accredited museum.
  • Daily operations in the museum including opening and closing, security and cleaning.
  • Retail management.
  • Occasional operations in the museum such as special events and public programs.
  • Internal and external stakeholder management including e-mail, phone, web and face-to-face enquiries.
  • Supervision of visitor behaviour for the safety of visitors and the collection items on display.


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Appropriate qualifications in cultural heritage, museum studies or a related field and/or relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • An understanding of museum risk management including environmental and security controls.
  • Expertise in customer service and/or retail.

 Requirements and relevant information:

  • 1 x part-time position (45.60 hours per fortnight), fixed term from Monday 13 February 2023 to Friday 5 January 2024.
  • The working days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of each week.
  • If the position/s is part time, the salary plus superannuation will be pro rata.
  • Position location is Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • In accordance with organisational policy, all Victoria Police employees are required to be fully vaccinated (including a booster vaccination) against COVID-19 or hold a valid medical exception.
