Position Details

About the role:

The Licensing and Regulation Division (LRD) is part of the Regulatory Services Department. The Division is responsible for the regulation of the firearms, private security, and weapons industries in Victoria.

We have various roles across the Division which sit in the Licensing & Authorities Section and Transactions & Permits Unit.

The function of the Assessment and Determination Unit (ADU) within LRD, is to review and assess licence and registration applications for firearm and security licensing including applicant suitability to hold these authorities.

The Transactions and Permit Section is responsible for processing and approving permit applications for firearms and weapons licence holders and the recording and tracking of firearm ownership in and out of Victoria.

Your duties will include:

As the successful applicant your duties will include:

  1. The assessment, validation and investigation of new and renewal licence and permit applications in accordance with legislation, policy and standard operating procedures.
  2. Making sound determinations in relation to the above application types within identified processing timeframes.
  3. The provision of administration support, including preparation of correspondence, reviewing document submissions and court records.
  4. Providing a high level of customer service to internal and external customers by responding to inbound phone and email enquiries.
  5. Responsible for the accurate collection, input, collation and storage of licensing data on the Licensing & Registration System (LARS).

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • A demonstrated ability to accurately maintain computer and manual information systems, including the ability to accurately maintain and update administrative records.
  • Well-developed communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • The ability to work in a sensitive and confidential environment including the ability to deal with challenging information.

 Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x full-time ongoing, One (1) x Part time ongoing, Two (2) Fixed term positions available.
  • If the position/s is part time, the salary plus superannuation will be pro rata
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
