Position Details

About the role:

Operational Communications is a dynamic and progressive environment requiring dedicated and enthusiastic staff to ensure Victoria's frontline police are provided the most effective tools available to perform their difficult role.

The position will report directly to the Operational Communications Superintendent and be part of the Divisional Leadership Team.  The successful applicant will build and implement project, strategies, and policies to advance Victoria Police's operational communications.  An ability to build mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external customers, grow their technical skills in a new environment and produce high end outcomes are essential.

The Division includes

  • Police Communications D.24 supports and advises ESTA, to provide the Victorian community with a triple zero call centre and dispatches jobs to frontline police
  • Operational Communications Services Unit that delivers the radio hardware and technology to service Victoria Police mission critical communication needs, and
  • Police Assistance Line and Online Reporting that provides the community with the ability to report crimes, events and incidents to police through a non-urgent call taking and report taking platform

These areas combine to services both the Victorian community and Police urgent and non-urgent communication needs

Your duties will include:

  • Managing and leading projects, strategies and policy development.
  • Undertake strategic planning and project management.
  • Build policy to guide police and other employees on processes.
  • Improve and enhance processes and systems to advance our communications.
  • Support to the Divisional Leadership Team through coaching, mentoring and guiding others in the development of innovative solutions.
  • Engaging internal partner including ESTA, Emergency Management Victoria, Telstra, Motorola and others.

 

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Project management skills.
  • Policy development background.
  • The ability to strategically conceptualise and manage/lead teams through successful implementation.
  • Ability to advise and guide management and others.
  • Ability to work within a small team.
  • An understanding of the Victorian Government processes and structures.

 

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • In accordance with organisational policy, all Victoria Police employees are required to be fully vaccinated (including a booster vaccination) against COVID-19 or hold a valid medical exception. As such your employment with Victoria Police is subject to providing evidence of your vaccination status.
