Position Details
About the role:
The Regulatory Services Department is responsible for the regulation and compliance in the firearm, private security, and weapons industries and provides criminal history checks and fingerprinting services to the broader community, as well as crime and accident records reports for insurance purposes.
The Department is currently undertaking several projects of state and national significance, including Firearms Legislation reform and the National firearms buy back scheme, the National Firearms Register, Digital License Reform, and Private Security Legislative reform.
This position reports to the Unit Manager, Policy and Governance Unit in the Regulatory Services Department, Victoria Police.
This position is responsible for providing support to the Regulatory Services Department by providing clear guidance regarding new or amended legislation as well as working with internal and external stakeholders to develop policy proposals and legislative reform, government reporting obligations and responding to enquiries relating to policy or legislative frameworks.

Your duties will include:
- Assess, research and provide advice to senior management on proposed policy and legislative changes or government initiatives affecting the firearm, private security and weapons industries and national police checking service
- Implementation of changes to legislation, policy and procedures
- Ensuring processes and procedures comply with relevant legislation and associated policy
- Preparing briefings and reports for Senior Management on a range of issues
- Additional tasks as required

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
- Ability to understand, interpret and apply legislative frameworks.
- Research and analytical skills.
- Ability to operate in a team environment effectively and flexibly.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to prepare briefings to senior management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
Further Information:
- One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
- This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
- The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. OR Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
- The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
