About the role:

Road Policing Command promotes road safety across Victoria Police and provides state-wide operational support to help reduce road trauma, in line with the Victorian Government's road safety strategy.  

Road Policing Command comprises of four separate Divisions:

  • Road Policing Strategy Division - works closely with government and key road safety partners to develop strategic policy and pursue legislative reform.
  • Road Policing Operations & Investigation Division – provides enforcement and investigative support to the state and includes: State Highway Patrol, Solo Unit, Major Collision Investigation Unit, Heavy Vehicle Unit and Road Policing Drug and Alcohol Section
  • Road Policing Projects Division - responsible for the delivery of Road Policing Command's projects including the new alcohol and drug testing fleet, mobile automatic number plate recognition, and roadside drug testing.
  • Road Policing Enforcement Division – maintains road safety camera availability to increase the likelihood of speed and red-light offence detection

Sitting within the Road Policing Strategy Division, the Road Policing Intelligence Unit provides intelligence support and analysis for Road Policing Command.  As the successful applicant, you will be leading a small team of Intelligence Practitioners to support the Command's state-wide tasking and coordination process, to undertake proactive monitoring of the road policing environment, and to provide timely and insightful intelligence on a broad range of issues.  The Analyst Manager reports directly to the Inspector, Road Policing Tasking & Coordination and will work closely with a range of stakeholders, including frontline police members, the Victoria Police intelligence practitioner network and external organisations including our road safety partners.

Your duties will include:

  • Leading a team to produce accurate and insightful intelligence products to assist decision makers in responding to road safety issues, including informing the deployment of centralised policing resources
  • Managing the function of the team:
    • Oversighting the health, safety and wellbeing of team members
    • Daily tasking and prioritisation of work
    • Contributing to Divisional Leadership Team and Tasking & Coordination meetings
  • Oversighting team outputs including:
    • Collecting, collating and analysing information and data from a diverse range of sources, and applying sound analytical skills to identify trends and emerging issues
    • Contributing to the Unit's proactive scanning program, by actively monitoring the road policing environment to maintain situational awareness
    • Performing both qualitative and quantitative analysis (statistical and geospatial) using various complex datasets
  • Liaising and developing good working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve shared objectives
  • Providing authoritative advice to senior management on intelligence findings and emerging trends in road safety

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work collaboratively within a small team in support of organisational objectives
  • Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to critically review and synthesise information to provide sound advice to management
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills and proven ability to plan and organise work and produce high quality results
  • A team player, who actively contributes to group discussion and openly shares knowledge among colleagues to support professional development
  • A commitment to continual improvement and innovation, enthusiastic to learn new techniques and keep abreast of emerging trends, sources and analytical techniques
  • Tertiary qualifications or proven experience working in any of: intelligence, law enforcement, statistics, road safety or geospatial science would be highly desirable

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.  To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • In accordance with organisational policy, all Victoria Police employees are required to be fully vaccinated (including a booster vaccination) against COVID-19 or hold a valid medical exception.
