Position Details

About the role:

The Senior Information Officer works flexibly across all streams of FOI work. You will be required to assist with processing of FOI requests and provide advice in relation to FOI legislation and processes to our stakeholders.

Your duties will include:

  • Providing advice regarding FOI to our relevant stakeholders.
  • Negotiating and consulting with FOI applicants, their legal representatives and internal employees.
  • Processing FOI requests and providing recommendations to delegated decision-makers in relation to access to documents.
  • Administration of internal FOI databases used to track and manage requests.
  • Providing training and supervision of staff in relation to FOI functions and processes.
  • Liaising with and providing a high level of customer service to stakeholders, by offering professional advice around best practice in accordance with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Work with and as part of a high functioning team

.About You:

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience: 

  • Well-developed communication skills (written and oral) and highly developed interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively liaise with staff at all levels.
  • Knowledge, or the ability to acquire knowledge quickly, of the FOI Act and the skill to apply the FOI Act to the handling and processing of requests.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • The ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders and convey complex concepts and messages.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage priorities effectively.

Further Information:

  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
