Position Details
About the role:
Service Delivery Transformation Command (SDTC) is a specialist area within Victoria Police that works across the organisation to design, develop and implement a service delivery and operating model that will better enable Victoria Police to serve the community.
This position sits within the Staff Allocation Model (SAM) team at SDTC. The SAM is a data-driven tool used to inform the allocation of resources across all employment streams within Victoria Police. The model uses key demand inputs to allocate resources in line with demand and deployment priorities within a baseline service level framework.
The VPS4 position will play a key role in the ongoing development of the SAM, driving collection and analysis of data vital for the assessment of demand pressures and resourcing needs. The position will work with key technical and non-technical stakeholders to establish and drive effective working relationships to support the collection, analysis and reporting of data and related advice.
The position is part of a small team of technical specialists and support staff, led by an Inspector.
The role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, good interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven ability to establish and sustain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.

Your duties will include:
- Developing an understanding of the organisation's structure and operating model, collating data from stakeholders and data custodians and undertaking quality assurance processes to ensure accuracy and consistency of data outputs.
- Developing and maintaining an understanding of the Victoria Police data environment, documenting data processes and maintaining data dictionaries to identify limitations and strengths of data holdings, ensuring business continuity, and enabling high accuracy and reliability of data for analysis.
- Performing data analysis to provide insight into demand impacting police resourcing across all employment streams in Victoria Police, including identifying key questions and conduct exploratory data analysis.
- Delivering custom data extracts including database querying, data reconciliation and quality assurance.
- Identifying data gaps and opportunities for improved collection and analysis.
- Working as part of a team to workshop issues and challenges in the development of the model, as well as ad-hoc analysis and scenario exploration.
- Supporting the delivery of planning and outcome-related documents and reports, including project documentation, overviews, summaries, and briefings.
- Other duties as directed by the team manager.
About You:
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
- Strong written and oral communication and highly developed interpersonal skills.
- Effective time management skills, with the ability to self-motivate and operate as part of a high-performing team.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills.
- The ability to conduct research, critically assess collated data and information, and report on findings.
- A passion for data and problem solving.
- The ability to think outside the box and bring innovations to address data gaps and challenges in areas of the model that are yet to be matured.
- Strong resilience and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines for deliverables.
