Position Details

About the role:

The OHS Operations Manager will provide a consistent, coordinated OHS approach across Victoria Police where safety is front of mind for all employees.  They will assist in enabling the Regions to be proactive in how they manage their health and safety risk and drive strategies to increase safety.  The position will lead a team of 12 OHS consultants located in Melbourne and across the regions.  The role will manage the organisational risk profile and management of organisational safety priorities.  The position will also engage at a high level with Regions/Departments/Commands and external stakeholders on OHS strategy and operations.

Your duties will include:

  • Leading, developing and coaching the OHS team, and building a depth of technical capabilities to deliver OHS services and strategies

  • Partnering with areas across Victoria Police to implement OHS service standards, ensuring continuous improvement and customer satisfaction to achieve positive health and safety outcomes.

  • Monitoring and managing OHS compliance relating to corporate standards and service delivery in accordance with legislative and departmental policies, strategies and procedures.

  • Providing expert knowledge of strategic specialist OHS advice, consistent with organisational requirements, governance framework, best practice, and industry standards.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders ensuring a high degree of responsibility, professionalism and courteousness. 

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary (or equivalent) qualification is required. Preferably this would be a Certified or Chartered OHS Professional, with five (5) or more years OHS experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully leading, mentoring and coaching a team of OHS specialists and embedding a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Strong contemporary understanding of current and emerging OHS issues and trends.

  • High level expertise in the delivery of business outcomes which are consistent with the strategic direction of the organisation.

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills, together with demonstrated strong written communication skills.

  • A proven ability to monitor client and stakeholder satisfaction, and constructively manage stakeholder issues to ensure positive outcomes

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One full-time, ongoing position available.

  • This position is located at the Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.

  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.  To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.

  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.

  • In accordance with the Acting Chief Health Officer's Direction – COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) Directions, you are required to be fully vaccinated and your employment with Victoria Police is subject to proof of vaccination.
