About the role:  

An exciting opportunity exists for a Business Project Officer on an ongoing basis in North West Metro Region. We are the largest, busiest, most dynamic region in Victoria providing policing services to the people of Melbourne and surrounds. The Business Project Officer role is attached to the Regional Business Service Division, which is primarily focussed on the provision of high-level strategic resource management advice and business and administrative services, including business and strategic planning, human resource management.  

The role requires a dynamic individual who can adapt to changing environments, is experienced with agile practices, and has experience managing competing priorities to deliver timely and fit-for-purpose outcomes.

Your duties will include:  

  • Manage all aspects of assigned projects and business initiatives under limited direction, ensuring project objectives are met.  Ensure service delivery targets and key milestones are achieved in accordance with the approved Project Plan.
  • Prepare reports, including analysis papers, briefing notes, project proposals, correspondence, and submissions for a range of stakeholders, including Unit/Portfolio Managers and Senior Management. 
  • Apply project management methodology to maintain project artefacts in relation to governance, budget, scope, schedule, risks and issues, communication, and stakeholders.
  • Undertake research and statistical analysis using modelling techniques on the effectiveness and efficiency of specific business drivers and practices. 
  • Travel around the Region for research and collation of information on various projects as required. (Vehicle provided).
  • Participate in divisional and departmental initiatives and programs aimed at improving service delivery or implementing new policies.

As the successful applicant, you will have:  

  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, maintain data and brief senior team members on the status of project issues and administrative processes.
  • Proven project management skills with the capacity to achieve meaningful goals and undertake competing priorities within a dynamic environment whilst maintaining attention to details at all times.
  • Ability to conduct research and a capacity to effectively manage planning and reporting arrangements to meet specified timelines.
  • Proven ability to prioritise and complete tasks to meet strict deadlines in an environment of limited supervision.
  • Proven ability to monitor client and stakeholder satisfaction, and constructively manage stakeholder issues to ensure positive outcomes for the stakeholder and the Region/Department/Command.

Requirements and relevant information: 

  • One (1) full time, ongoing position available.
  • Position is located at the Victoria Police Centre (VPC), 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.  While this position will have a nominated usual place of work, the position may be required to work at other locations, in accordance with the provisions of the relevant Victorian Public Service Agreement.
