The Environment, Climate Action and First Peoples Group in the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action is seeking Expressions of Interest from talented and driven individuals with strong skills and experience in environmentally focused policy analysis, policy development and policy advice.

As a Senior Policy Officer you will:

  • provide expert, authoritative and timely policy advice to the Minister, the Department's executive and other government departments;
  • undertake consultation across government and with external stakeholders, to inform advice to the Minister and the Department's executive; and
  • manage work programs and deliverables for complex policy projects within tight timelines.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Experience in undertaking complex policy analysis and providing high level policy advice is required.
  • High level knowledge, skills and experience with policy development and analysis in one or more of the following areas is desirable: climate change; environment protection; biological science; environmental conservation; threatened species; first peoples; public land management; regulation; waste management and/or the circular economy.
  • Experience undertaking engagement with stakeholders across government, industry and the community on complex policy issues is desirable.
  • A well-developed understanding of Victorian Government policy processes is desirable.
  • Tertiary qualification(s) including post-graduate qualification(s) in social sciences, public policy, natural resources and environmental management, law or similar is desirable.

The duration of the position will depend on the role/roles available at the time. These may be fixed-term, or ongoing. The work location is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available. Expressions of interest will close on 30 September 2023.
