About the Role

A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced professional with a background in international education, business development, and relationship management, together with a detailed understanding of the global business environment particularly it relates to Malaysia, ideally also Thailand, and Victoria, Australia, to join the Victorian Government Trade & Investment (VGTI) network.

Reporting to the Education lead for Victoria to Southeast Asia, the successful applicant will have strong knowledge of the cultural, economic, and political environment in Malaysia and in-depth knowledge of the Australian education system. They will support program development for the Study Melbourne Hub, represent the Victorian government to a range of senior stakeholders, and develop strategic and nuanced approaches to business development for education within the region.

Ability to communicate in Malay is highly desirable. The successful applicant will be required to travel to Thailand and Victoria, and occasionally other countries within Southeast Asia.

Successful Candidate
The successful candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including high level representation and stakeholder management experience.
  • Strong understanding of the Australian education and training system, and of the cultural, economic, and political issues that impact education within Malaysia and the region particularly Thailand.
  • Experience in business development and project management, including the ability to identify and facilitate commercial opportunities for Victorian education providers.
  • Ability to present at a senior level, including negotiation, securing outcomes, and developing high level reports.

The successful candidate for this locally engaged position will be responsible for all arrangements in relation to relocation expenses (if applicable), their accommodation and day-to-day living expenses.
