About the role: 

This role is a Fixed-Term, Full-time position from 1 December 2025 to 30 June 2026.

The Senior Analyst will work within a collaborative team environment to deliver routine reporting of system and funded agency performance, support continuous improvement of reporting systems, and respond to ad-hoc data and analytics requests. The role supports the Department's mental health reform initiatives and system management functions by delivering data analysis, performance reports, and benchmarking insights.

This role requires advanced technical skills in SQL and experience in designing, developing and maintaining SQL-based data pipelines; experience in compiling and analysing complex datasets; demonstrated ability to develop meaningful measures and reports that inform policy development, service delivery and performance improvement; and knowledge of and commitment to ensuring data integrity and compliance with data governance frameworks.

To be successful in the role you will have excellent conceptual and analytical skills with a strong attention to detail; work well within a team and possess a demonstrated ability to successfully manage competing demands. You will be an excellent communicator and be able to develop effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders to ensure outputs meet operational needs.

Knowledge of Victoria's mental health service system and national Activity Based Funding (ABF) models for mental health would be an advantage.

As Senior Analyst, you will be responsible for gathering, interpreting and analysing data and information to inform strategic and operational decision-making. Strong planning and organisational skills will be essential, as you will be required to prioritise competing tasks, manage time effectively, and implement processes that enhance team performance and service delivery.

Your ability to build strong relationships, anticipate challenges, and provide timely, well-informed analysis will be critical to achieving successful outcomes.

Mandatory 

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant area, with experience and/or studies in the specialist work of your unit, would be highly advantageous
  • High-level competency in SQL (mandatory) and in industry-leading software for data extraction, analysis and reporting (e.g.  R, Python, SAS, Power BI)
  • Knowledge of Victoria's mental health service system and national Activity Based Funding (ABF) models for mental health would be highly regarded

Desirable

  • Experience in indicator development and documentation, preferably with a health context is desirable
