Senior Legal Policy Officer

The Senior Legal Policy Officer will provide strategic and authoritative policy and legal advice to the Manager Legal and Legislation, the Director Legal Policy and Executive Services, senior officers of EMV and the Minister Emergency Services on a range of issues.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Participate in the development and implementation of policy and legislative proposals, including through consultation and negotiation in relation to options for legislative change and the preparation of Cabinet and Parliamentary documentation.
  • Provide strategic and authoritative policy advice to the Manager Legal and Legislation, the Director, senior officers of EMV and the Minister for Emergency Services on a range of issues.
  • Pro-actively build and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and develop options for implementing innovative strategies to facilitate a partnership approach across the emergency management sector agencies.
  • Undertake complex and sensitive research, analyse complex policy development and delivery issues and risks including the identification and resolution of emerging issues, risks and trends impacting on the achievement of key government and departmental objectives.

 To be successful you will have:

  • Strong stakeholder management experience with a broad range of external and internal stakeholders;
  • Ability to maintain focus and energy in periods of high intensity and pressure;
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills which enable the achievement of shared outcomes.
