Position Details
• Officer, State Public Information (4 roles available)
• 3 x Ongoing & 1 x 6 month fixed term, full time (shift work - 24/7 roster including nights and weekends)
• VPS3 salary between $76,817 to $93,275 plus superannuation
What will the role do?
o Work in the State Control Centre Public Information team as part of Victoria's operational emergency response.
o Create and publish emergency information and warnings, manage the VicEmergency social media channels and support media requirements.
o Support projects that enhance public information.
o Community-focused communications to help keep Victorians safe before, during and after emergencies.
Please Note - This role involves working on site at the State Control Centre, on rotations of four days on, four days off. Successful candidates will be required to work changing shift times, including outside normal business hours, nights and weekends, to support the 24/7 nature of emergency response.
What skills and knowledge should the Officer, State Public Information have?
About you
We are looking for someone who is motivated and passionate about keeping communities safe during emergencies. You'll need to thrive in a dynamic environment, be driven to achieve outcomes and be flexible and adaptable.
Our ideal candidate will also have:
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a variety of different agencies and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience in digital and media communications across multiple platforms.
• Knowledge of Victoria's emergency management arrangements (desirable).
• A positive, can-do attitude.
• Proven ability to productively work independently or as part of a team.
• Well-developed decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
• Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in an appropriate discipline (such as - marketing, communications, or a related discipline) are desirable.
Emergency Management
Emergency Management, within the Department of Justice and Community Safety works closely with government and agencies across the emergency management portfolio. The group is led by the Deputy Secretary, Emergency Management. Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) Emergency Management includes the department's emergency management accountabilities delivered through Emergency Management Victoria, Emergency Recovery Victoria, Sector Performance and Reform and emergency management statutory entities and offices. The work of the group supports the emergency management sector to work together and to strengthen the capacity of individuals, communities, government, agencies and business to achieve our shared vision of safer and more resilient communities and to rebuild and recover after an emergency.
The Business Unit: Emergency Management Communications
EM Communications delivers communication services on behalf of the department's emergency management group to inform and educate the community about emergency management policies, programs and legislation across the emergency management sector to keep the community safe. The EM Communications function is responsible for the coordination and delivery of preparedness communications, response, relief and recovery.
