The Department, through the Secretary, employs EMV staff and provides corporate functions to EMV. EMV is led jointly by the Chief Executive (CE) and the Emergency Management Commissioner (EMC).

Position Details

Support Officer State Public Information

  • Provide support to the State Control Centre Public Information team by monitoring and supporting media, social media, and community warnings in emergencies.
  • VPS3, full-time, fixed term until 30 June 2023, shift work (24 x 7 rotating shifts).

Reporting to the Lead Officer, State Public Information, the Support Officer State Public Information provides 24/7 support to the State Control Centre by supporting the management of public information and warning systems.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Creation, publication, and dissemination of community notifications and warnings using warning publishing tools.
  • Monitor and moderate VicEmergency and relevant agency social media channels.
  • Respond to VicEmergency website and app user enquiries.
  • Support State Control Centre media requirements, including press conferences, live stream set up and liaising with external media in relation to incidents and emergencies.
  • Support the administration of public information and warning systems in conjunction with partner agencies.

To be successful you will have:

  • Well-developed communication skills and the ability to work with a variety of different agencies, organisations, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in digital and media communications across multiple platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Victoria's emergency management arrangements (desirable).

This role will operate on a 24 x 7 rotating roster and will require you to work outside normal business hours including weekends and public holidays.

Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.

Early Retirement Scheme:

A re-employment restriction of one year applies to all recipients of an Early Retirement Scheme package from the VPS.
