About Public Transport Victoria (PTV)

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is a statutory authority that acts as a system authority for all public transport and an advocate for public transport users. We are a single contact point for customers wanting information on public transport services, fares, tickets and initiatives. PTV aims to improve public transport in Victoria by ensuring better coordination between modes, facilitating expansions to the network, auditing public transport assets, promoting public transport as an alternative to the car.

About the role

The Senior Finance Business Partner role will support divisions in the development and management of their operating budgets. The role uses knowledge of stakeholder's operational objectives and provides advice in financial matters to assist in achieving these goals. The Senior Finance Business Partner will identify trends, emerging issues and financial issues and provide timely information and advice to stakeholders to assist in meeting budget requirements.

Technical capabilities

Essential (must have to be considered for the position)

  • Extensive financial management experience particularly in the development and management of budgets and the provision of expert advice and analysis to management
  • Well-developed understanding of divisional objectives and activities and the ability to identify upcoming risks and opportunities to forecast financial positions and ensure divisions are able to operate within allocated budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide advice to internal stakeholders to assist with decision making on budgetary and/or accounting issues. 
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to develop reports, briefs and presentations to PTV Executive and Government stakeholders.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting standards and practices, the Financial Management Act 1994 and the Standing Directions of the Minister for Finance 2016, government accounting/budgetary rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of MS office, electronic records management systems (TRIM experience preferred), financial reporting applications and Budgeting systems (Cognos experience preferred).



  • An appropriate degree qualification (such as accounting or finance).


  • Membership to a relevant professional association such as CPA/CA.
