About us

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the Department) wants to continue to grow it's Aboriginal workforce to maintain the Departments commitment to deliver stronger career development, supporting clear and accessible employment pathways, and strengthen our already strong partnerships with the Aboriginal community.

The Department strives to be a workplace that is culturally respectful, to recognise and embrace the diversity of Aboriginal cultures. The Aboriginal Employment Team aims to support, attract, recruit, and retain all Aboriginal candidates and employees. This support includes a culturally appropriate attraction and recruitment process.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest for a variety of roles. You will be contacted by our Aboriginal Recruitment Team once we have further information on the progress of your application. Your application will also be retained as part of our talent pool for suitable positions in the future.

The opportunities

There is a broad range of opportunities across the department for work in Aboriginal prioritised/designated roles and/or non prioritised roles including are some examples below:

  • Prison Officer
  • Sheriff's Aboriginal Liaison officer
  • Project Officer
  • Executive Assistant
  • Senior Project Officer
  • Policy Officer
  • Aboriginal Case Manger
  • Aboriginal Wellbeing Officer
  • Youth Justice Worker

All these roles are vital in providing the best cultural support to Aboriginal people within the justice system, as well as being important in keeping us connected to local community.

You are encouraged to register your interest if you identify as Aboriginal and have:

  • relevant skills experience to the above roles
  • an understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community
  • an appreciation of a range of different cultures and demonstrated ability to support diversity and inclusion in our workforce.
