A Principal Scientist Freshwater at EPA will:

  • Lead and manage the Freshwater Sciences team to achieve high standards of performance, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Contribute to the overall operational strategy and direction of the organisation.
  • Deliver expert scientific advice to inform regulatory and strategic decisions. 

About the role:

Reporting to the Manager Water Sciences, the Principal Scientist Freshwater is a senior role responsible for leading and managing a team of scientists to deliver expert advice, guidance and programs that meet the needs of the EPA as a science-based regulator.  You will communicate complex, technical information to a range of audiences and lead the preparation of scientific and technical guidelines and publications.   You will work with academia and other research organisations to address knowledge gaps and optimise outcomes for the EPA and community.  This is senior role for an expert in water quality that is critical to the success of the EPA as a modern regulator as it enters a new era of environmental protection in Victoria.

About You:

Purpose driven and relishing a challenge, you will have post graduate qualifications and senior level experience in the applied environmental sciences.  You are a recognised expert in freshwater sciences, with demonstrated knowledge and experience in environmental risk assessment. 

You have demonstrated success in managing a team, inspiring high performance, building organisational capability, setting a shared sense of direction, and responding proactively to strategic issues. 

You have the ability to systematically analyse data and evidence to provide authoritative advice on highly complex matters.  You are an effective communicator and foster genuine partnerships across government, research and academia to address knowledge gaps and support the delivery of EPA's science strategy.
