Position Details

As part of the Victorian Government's response to the recent 2017 enquiry, the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has committed to deliver a pilot local government environment protection officer program. This program commenced in September 2017 with the employment of several Officers for the Protection of the Local Environment (OPLE's) to assist with Victoria's pollution issues.

Local Government and the EPA play a vital role in responding to pollution and waste issues that compromise environmental and public health, and adversely impact liveability and amenity.

The EPA now has an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to contribute to this program. Employed by, and representing the EPA, this unique position will be embedded at the City of Port Phillip council.

Reporting to the Regional Network Lead - OPLE Pilot Program, this role is one of 19 OPLEs based at local councils across the state. The OPLE will work closely with other EPA Officers, the City of Port Phillip to respond to small and medium scale pollution reports relating to waste, noise, dust, litter, and odour arising from business and industries within each of the council areas.

To be successful in this Role:

  • Demonstrated experience in environmental management, regulation and/or relevant experience in industry;
  • Demonstrated management and knowledge of some industry practices, risks, and controls;
  • Strong face to face customer service experience;
  • Ability to conduct proactive inspections of premises to support compliance; and
  • Ability to work autonomously.
