Position Details

Position Title: Policy Officer

A VPS4 Policy Officer position, in the Waste and Land Team, Policy and Regulation Unit. Fixed Term until 10 August 2020

EPA Victoria aspires to create a healthy environment that supports a liveable and prosperous Victoria.  By effectively regulating pollution in Victoria, the EPA strive to preserve healthy waterways, safe land, clean air and minimise environmental disturbances for Victorians.

As a Policy Officer, you will be a member of a dynamic team making an essential contribution to the most significant environmental regulation reforms in Victoria since the Environment Protection Act was introduced. 

The Policy officer will undertake policy research, analysis and development including developing options for regulatory response to risks of harm to the environment and human health. The role will harness expertise from within the EPA, across government and in industry and community, and use influence to shape policy proposals and regulatory practice. The Policy Officer will prepare accurate, concise, timely and risk-aware advice, briefings, correspondence, submissions, presentations and reports, comfortably communicating complex concepts to a range of stakeholders.

In this role, you need to be a lateral thinker, fast learner, strong writer and focussed on getting the job done. You should enjoy being part of a supportive team working on complex problems across a range of stakeholders.

What you will bring to the role

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience in policy advice, development and delivery, preferably in an environmental or regulatory setting.
